We have been debating writing a blog for months…and finally decided it was time.
This last year was full of excitement and challenges and so many of you were there in and through all of it. We are so thankful and blessed to have you as our “family”.
At the beginning of the year, we were so encouraged to find out that Steph was pregnant with our first child! We had talked about having kids when we first got married, but didn’t know when the Lord’s timing was for us. We were really excited to bring another “Gatten” into the family!
We made it through the summer with some “challenges” in our pregnancy. But the Lord was faithful to show Himself through every bit of it. We were tried and tested and saw God’s favor in it all.
After summer camp ended we were faced with another trying time in our lives, when Oliver’s Mom passed away from a liver disease. Her health had been declining over the past several years, but the rapid decline of her health was not expected by anyone. We were able to spend some time with her before she passed and got the chance to tell her that she was having a grandson. She was so excited!! The Lord again showed His faithfulness during this time and blessed us by the support of our family and friends.
Throughout the last 10 weeks of pregnancy the doctors were telling us that Silas was measuring really big. Parts of him (i.e. his head and length) were measuring 4-6 weeks further along than he was. Of course things like this planted the thoughts in our heads that he was going to come early because he would run out of room. Silas proved us wrong and stayed inside Steph until we told him it was time to come out. She was induced on November 8th and through a long day of labor, the doctors finally told us that he wasn’t coming out and we needed to do a C-section. So, Silas made his grand entrance into this world at 10lbs. 70z.!! He was such a chubby little boy!
The year of 2011 is one that will never be forgotten. We lost and gained so much and learned more about God’s Sovereignty and faithfulness through it all. We are so blessed to have the family and friends who were there every step of the way.
So…here goes with our blog! We’re going to try to post things weekly. From family stuff to things Oliver’s building, to tips on motherhood and married life. We want to encourage others with what the Lord is doing in and through us. We hope you enjoy!
